Like it or not, Summer is already here and the heat is felt all over the country. It’s nice to go to the beach and relax. But for those days that you need to deal with the hot days, here are some of my tips to survive the heatwave this season.
1. Keep yourself hydrated – increase your liquid intake during the summer to keep yourself feeling cool. Always bring a bottle of water wherever you may go. If you are outside and it’s too hot. You can even splash some water on your face to lessen the hot temperature.
2. Always bring an umbrella – When going outdoors, always bring an umbrella and use it to shade yourself from the scorching heat of the sun. Umbrellas now comes in all shapes and sizes. Bring a foldable compact one that fits in your bag. A hat or baseball cap can also be useful.
3. Wear a dark shades – Of course, we also have to protect our eyes from the blinding ray of the sun. Choose an eyewear with UV protection for proper care.
4. Wear loose fit and light-colored clothes – wear one size bigger shirts and loose pants. For ladies, you might want to ditch those skinny jeans during the warm season. Instead, wear skirts or slacks pants if necessary. Avoid tight fit wardrobes. Sandals is much comfortable compared to closed shoes.
5. Bring a portable fan when going out – There are rechargeable hand held electric fans available that you can take with you whenever you have to go out to do some errands. Or you can use the traditional hand fan that can fit in your bag.
6. Do your errands at the early time of the days. If you need to do some errands or personally buy something in the market or pay bills in the bank, do it at the earliest time possible. Don’t wait until it’s the hottest time of the day to go out as this may cause heat stroke.
7. Take a 2nd or 3rd bath – If you’re used to taking 2 baths in a day. A 3rd repeat would help you keep your body temperature cool. No need to scrub again. Just a simple body bath will do.
8. Be mindful of your Blood Pressure. Have your medications on stock just in case you need it. Summer heat can cause High Blood Pressure. Or sometimes you will experience exhaustion that will lead to difficulty in breathing. The best thing to do is be familiar with your own body and what is it telling you. If you need to rest, REST! No matter how important it is that you are doing.
9. Go to the mall – Choose establishments that has cold air conditioning to do your errands, like buying groceries; paying bills; meeting with clients or friends or just to chill. The mall is the best place to go.
10. Eat lots of fruits – Eating fruits like Pineapple; watermelon; melon; etc. will help your body feel cool.
11. Cut your long hair short – If you up for it. Try a short new haircut. You will be rid of sweat on your neck area.
12. Wear sunblock/sunscreen lotions – 30 minutes before going out. Put some sunscreen lotion not just on your face but put on all over your body. Remember to use different sunscreen on your face. This lotion serves as our protection from getting sunburn and skin cancer.
13. Declutter your home – Keep every part of your home neat and tidy. This will help your mind feel clear and stress-free. Making it a comfortable place to relax.
14. Start getting indoor plants – Plants are very helpful to humans. They emit oxygen for better and cleaner air for breathing.
Hope these tips come in handy and helpful to you. Enjoy the summer and always be safe!
